The Most Iconic Handbags Ever Made

The Most Iconic Handbags Ever Made

Nothing completes an outfit like the perfect handbag.  The It bag, or an iconic handbag, has never gone out of style.  Often inspired by celebrities, the “must have” handbag has been around since the days of Grace Kelly with her Hermes bag and Audrey Hepburn travelling with her Speedy.  How many of these five iconic handbags are part of your collection?

Gucci Jackie Bag

Gucci renamed it’s Fifties Constance bag after First Lady and fashion icon Jackie Kennedy.  She was often photographed wearing the bag, and female customers flocked to copy her look.

Hermes Kelly Bag

The Hermes Kelly bag was made famous when a newly pregnant Princess Grace Kelly, not ready to share her happy news with the media yet, made an appearance and used the bag to hide her baby bump.  The image made headlines, and everyone wanted that bag.

Chanel 2.55

Forward thinking designer Coco Chanel wanted to free up her hands and so she designed a handbag that she wouldn’t have to carry.  Inspired by the straps on soldier’s bags, she added thin straps to her handbag and introduced the revolutionary design in 1929.  It was an immediate success.  This take on that bag was released in February 1955, hence the name, 2.55.

Chloe Paddington

The super limited release of the Chloe Paddington bag ensures that it always sells out.  A favorite with many celebrities, this often photographed bag has become a much sought after item.

Louis Vuitton Speedy

No list of iconic handbags would be complete without including the perennial favorite handbag maker, Louis Vuitton.  The Speedy, made popular by Audrey Hepburn, has been popular for decades.  It’s durability and affordability (relative to other iconic handbags) makes this bag accessible. The variety of prints and finishes also makes this a “must have” handbag.

Which iconic handbag have you treated yourself to?  Everyone needs at least one drool worthy handbag in their collection!
